Beginner's Rug Weaving Workshop for Holy Martyrs Armenian Church Members



LEARN THE ART OF RUG WEAVING FROM RENOWNED MASTER CRAFTSMAN HAYK OLTACI: A WORKSHOP EXCLUSIVELY FOR MEMBERS OF THE HOLY MARTYRS ARMENIAN CHURCH

Join us for a four week workshop and discover the ancient art of rug making! You will learn the ABCs of vertical rug weaving, including terms such as warp and weft, techniques such as knotting, and the basics of design.  You will discover how to weave the Armenian alphabet into a rug of your own design.  And you will actually practice the art of rug making by weaving a small rug of your own using the loom and materials provided to each participantThis is an exciting opportunity to learn how rugs have been made for thousands of years from an experienced teacher who will carefully guide you at every stage.

Traditional music and superb coffee will enhance the evenings!

News from Hayko Fine Rugs and Tapestries







Dear Friends,

Hayko Fine Rugs and Tapestries has been in its new location in Astoria for 18 months now.  We are pleased to announce that we are thriving in a fully restored historical building that was once home to a 19th century cigar factory and today provides space for many arts and crafts experts.

We are celebrating our 24th year of serving the New York community.  Our experienced staff continues to offer a full range of services for your fine rugs and tapestries, including restoration and conservation, consultations and sales.  Our services include pick up and delivery Monday through Saturday.

            If you are interested in purchasing carpets, you can visit our studio by appointment or we can arrange to bring rugs to your home so that you can see how the different designs complement your personal décor.

Artisans Guild of America Networking Event & Fundraiser

Weaving classes just for you - Friday, June 15

It is time to weave again!!! Come to weaving classes at UNSRC Friendship Club to expand your weaving and designing skills. We will teach you how to begin designing and the ABCs of rug weaving, including vertical weaving techniques (knotting, warp, weft). Come to explore pattern weaves using a variety of weaving looms. You will learn to understand and use weave structures, fibers, and drafting techniques. All are welcome!

Class Date: Friday, June 15th

Time: 6:00 pm-8:00 pm (2 hours)
Special Pricing: $120 (materials are included)
